Rick Schober knows a lot about the forestry industry—“I’ve been around it since I was just a kid,” he said—and much of that he’s learned from one person. “Everything I know about the business I learned it from my father,” he said. “My education gave me a good background, but most of what I know came from him.” Rick’s father founded Al Schober Forestry Company Inc., and when Rick graduated from Auburn, he knew that he wanted to go home and join the company. “I’ve been here ever since,” Rick said. He started at the company as a field forester, eventually becoming the company’s vice president, handling all of the day-to-day operations. That means he daily advocates for landowners, helping them meet their goals and objectives—whether that’s recommending or implementing a service, handling timber sales, or doing timber appraisals. And he does it all with the qualities he’s learned straight from his father. “He taught me a strong work ethic, the meaning of hard work and the value of that work,” Rick said. “He taught me about doing right by people and that your word is your bond.”
